Connecting Your iPod To Your TV

Fed up of watching all that great content on your iPod great but small display? Fear not! Watching your films on your TV is a simple as grabbing the right cable and reading this quick guide.

You have converted and transported your videos to the iPod, and have watched these movies on the iPod's small 3-inch screen. Now, you would like to watch those videos on your TV, and you need to find out how to connect your iPod to your TV. This writing will explain the process to you.

To start, you will need the A/V cable. Normally this will have three plugs (the colours are white, yellow and red) and consists of the 8 inch RCA cable on one end, and on the other end a 3.5mm 3-banded A/V plug. On the iPod, select "Settings", then "Videos" and then from its main menu, select "Video Settings".

You will next select one of three playback styles you desire. With a Video iPod, the playback can be done on the small built-in screen of the device itself, or the video signals can be transmitted by means of the microphone jack. One or the other method must be selected, but not both at the same time. At "TV Out" select "Yes" - for the creation of a TV signal, select "No" for playback on the iPod's screen, or select "Ask" to be prompted each time you want to play a video.

Next, select "TV Signal", here your choice will depend on the origin of your TV. For TVs in Japan and the US, select "NTSC", and for Australian and European TV sets, select "PAL".

Next the selection for screen size has to be made. The iPod's screen use 4:3 ratio, but a widescreen TV has a ratio of 16:9. So for the "Widescreen" option, choose "YES" to generate the signal for the widescreen, and select "NO" for an appropriate signal for a TV that is the traditional size.

Next the TV and the iPod are connected. The A/V cable is connected to the earphone jack of the iPod, and the RVA plug is connected in the following way: the red RCA goes to the TV's yellow RCA, the yellow RCA goes to the TV's white RCA, and the white RCA goes to the red RCA.

Now that the connections have been made, play the video by selecting it on the iPod. You will next be prompted to run the video using TV Off or TV On options, if you had selected the "ASK" option of the "TV Out" setting. Select "TV On" and the movie will begin to play.

These are the simple steps you will follow to connect your iPod to your TV. This is a cheap way to transfer the videos to your TV without the purchase of any additional expensive devices. The process outlined will not degrade your iPod files and is perfectly safe.
